Factors of Development of the Management of the Design Education in Latvia
2015
<p>The author proceeds with the discussion of significant problems in design industry and education in Europe and Latvia. This research is devoted to several important aspects in the development of design education in Latvia. Design education which is mainly based on the meaning of design as an aesthetic component of products, environment or communication, includes only a narrow range of specializations in the traditional fields of design. This concept affects the structure of design education and an beliefs of the areas in which designers will be able to work. Insufficiency of public awareness and understanding of the essence of design results in limited demand of design products and…
Impact of histidine spacing on modified polyhistidine tag – Metal ion interactions
2018
Abstract Histidine rich sequences are chosen both by nature and by molecular biologists due to their high affinity towards metal ions. In this work, we examine the affinity and binding modes of Cu 2+ , Ni 2+ and Zn 2+ towards two histidine tags, the common His 6 -tag (Ac-HHHHHH-NH 2 ) and its modified sequence, which also contains six histidines, but separated with two alanine residues (Ac-HAAHAAHAAHAAHAAHAA-NH 2 ). The spatial separation of histidines has an important impact on its coordination properties. Cu 2+ and Ni 2+ complexes with Ac-HHHHHH-NH 2 are more stable than those with Ac-HAAHAAHAAHAAHAAHAA-NH 2 ; the contrary is observed for Zn 2+ . In a narrow range of pH, Cu 2+ -Ac-HHHHHH-…
Effects of substitutions on cyclopentadienyl rings in complexes with molybdenum-mercury bonds. 95Mo and 199Hg NMR studies
1995
NMR data for 95Mo and 199Hg nuclei have been obtained for new di- and trimetallic complexes Cp′(CO)3MoHgX containing molybdenum-mercury bonds and bulky and/or potentially bifunctional substituted cyclopentadienyl ligands; Cp′=C5HMe2Ph2, C5Me4Bz, C5Bz5, C5H4PPh2 and C5Me4PPh2 (Bz=CH2C6H5; Me =CH3; Ph=C6H5); X=Cp′(CO)3Mo, Cl, Br, 1, SCN. They are discussed within the context of our earlier results reported for analogous complexes with the cyclopentadienyl ligands bearing methyl groups. With the exception of phenyl substituted rings, a rather narrow range of 95Mo chemical shifts is found for the compounds with the same number of different substituents on cyclopentadienyl ligands. An outstandin…
Resolution of inherently chiral resorcarene derivatives by enantioselective HPLC
1999
Abstract The HPLC enantiomeric resolution of five inherently chiral tetrabenzoxazine derivatives of resorcarenes has been achieved by HPLC using Whelk-Ol and in one case Chiralpak AD as stationary phases. Enantiomeric separation was only observed in a very narrow range of mobile phase compositions. On-column enantiomeric interconversion of a racemic compound with a typical plateau-like elution profile was observed using a Chiralpak AD column
Rules of Engagement: Family Rules on Young Children’s Access to and Use of Technologies
2018
This chapter reports on a study conducted in seven countries in which young children’s (aged under 8) digital practices in the home were examined. The study explored family practices with regard to access to and use of technologies, tracing the ways in which families managed risks and opportunities. Seventy families participated in the study, and interviews were undertaken with both parents and children, separately and together, in order to address the research aims. This chapter focuses on the data relating to parental mediation of young children’s digital practices. Findings indicate that parents used a narrow range of strategies in comparison to parents of older children, primarily becau…
